23rd April

So after the short session and the pain of having to get a new boiler I was back on the lake once more. I arrived to find that the algae had risen to the surface of the lake and it looked just like a lawn. In places it was so thick it was impossible to land any fish if it was hooked. It was also moving around in the wind so one minute a place was fishable and after a few minutes covered in weed again.

The lawn on the lake

I headed to a swim where the water was 7ft deep at 20 yds. I fished it for the evening and the early morning without having a single bleep. I then decided to head to a swim where you needed to cast 80yds to reach the fish. I was able to do this for the second day as the wind was behind me. It’s hard work doing this but I only had a short opportunity to do this. Whilst the wind was with me I managed to catch 2 tench 6lbs 10oz and 5lbs 6oz. I was struggling though to hit the clip as the wind changed direction.

Finally I moved yet again for the 3rd time in 24hrs

That was it for the day but things looked good for tomorrow. I don’t normally fish at night preferring to get a good nights sleep.

Camp number 3

The very next morning I was up and spombing out some dead maggots hemp and mini pellets soaked in oil. It was a 44 yd chuck. It wasn’t long before the rods followed. The move seemed to be working out well as during the morning I landed 7 tench none were huge but it was still a very good result. There were 2 7lbers.

7lbs 10oz

So what a great session the weather looked to be staying fine.
