16th April Tench fishing (pike)

The weather hadn’t cheered up too much over the last week. There were still cold nights with the occasional frosts at night. I arrived to find the summer bay area pretty quiet. I set up at 10am and was fishing one rod on worm the other on maggot. The bay seemed to be devoid of fish, no tench and no carp moving around.

The only fish were a shoal of rudd dimpling the surface of the lake. Then occasionally there would be a huge splash where the pike would attack the shoal. 3 times during the day I would hook a small pike or lets say they would hold onto a rudd that I had hooked before letting go right at the net.

Then the call came from Mrs P to say the boiler had broken down at home. Things didn’t look good so I said that I would just have dinner on the lake side then come on home. So a nice Irish stew with rice was consumed. I started to pack away the bivvy and had almost finished when I had a take on one of the rods. Sure enough it was a small tench of about 4 lbs. So no blanking for me. That was it I packed up and went home.

So it looks like a new boiler is required. On a happier note another tench.
