Wednesday 25th January Throop, loads of chub!

Well after another good nights sleep in Ringwood I was around to see Martine in Avon Angling to pick up another 6 pints of red maggots.

I had decided to try the Throop beat two stretch again today. The weather was a perfect overcast and dull with little wind.

I decide to fish one of the swims I fished last week. Being first on the fishery at 7.30am saw me heading off towards the swim.  It’s a 4ft deep good steady flow close to a far side tree in the river. The chub like the sanctuary of the branches and the idea is to lure them out so that you can then fish for them with some sort of safety.

I started out with the usual 3aaa float and size 20 hook and 2.5lb hooklink terminal tackle. First though it’s essential to bait the swim for a good 20 minutes or more before casting to get the chub chasing those maggots.

First trot down the float buried under and I hooked a chub which after about 15 seconds or so slipped the hook.

Then over the next two hours I caught 6  more chub between 1lb and 4lbs plus. It’s great to see that there are a good few younger fish coming through. I took a couple of photo’s of the 4lbers.

I must admit none of the bigger fish seem to be putting in an appearance.
