Tuesday 31st January D.Stour and two 6lb chub

The plan was to fish for two days this week however the forecast was for sub-zero temperatures. As I set off down the Bristol, Wylye  then the H.Avon valley the outside temperatures read -3c on the car display.

I pulled into the car park where I met Mike another angler who was down for the day. He doesn’t fish it too much but I did suggest he tried trotted maggots as this had been the going method for the last few weeks.

I moved across the river to fish Chibbs swim one which has been kind to me in the past. More importantly my mate Paul suggest it as a good place to start.

I fed the swim while I tackled up. Putting maggots out for a good 15 minutes or so. Little did I know what a good day I was going to have.

I’m not going to write too much just enough to say I had 15 chub with two of 6lbs. 13 from Chibbs and another two just upstream.

All the fish were caught using a size 18 hook and 3lb line.

Have a look at the video I think most things are covered.

You can see that the unlucky 13th struck with the video.

I lost a few chub in the process but not many. One situation was comical. Brian a chap I met about 2 years ago came down for a chat and instantly I hooked and landed a 6lb chub we both weighed it a couple of times to make it less but it was spot on. The last fish I lost was where I hooked one and offered to let Brian bring it to the net, however a slit second before he could answer the question the thing slipped the hook.

It was bloody cold when I packed up and headed off to sleep in the car, frost frost and cold. I had a meal in the pub and slept very well.
