Friday fishing with Andy on the H.Avon

Andy (you should have been here yesterday) Cowley was down for the day. I was shopping for the morning and went to see him in the late afternoon. He was fishing a swim with a couple of chub moving up and down quickly. They would stop occasionally and feed. I would give him a running commentary. It was when I said now his rod lurched around and he played a chub of about 4lbs or so.

About 4lbs

We chatted and moved around different swims where we found some chub feeding. One was full of chub and some large ones. First cast the rod twitched and a small 1lb chub soon found it’s way to the bank. It must have been the smallest chub in the shoal. He recast and soon had another one out of the swim of 4lbs 15oz. On the way up to the swim we stopped off and Andy casts freeline luncheon meat and catches a lovely chub of about 4 lbs.

It was time for me to leave but before we spotted a couple of barbel in one swim. They were feeding together with a few chub. I was having a BBQ so left him to it. He texted me later to say he had a 5lbs 15oz chub and a 8lbs 11oz barbel.

So I think his total for the day was 13 chub and the barbel so a fan blood tas tic day for him. And thoroughly deserved as his river season had been slow up to that point.
