Fishing with Tyler and two PB’s

It must be school holidays again as Tyler wanted to go fishing. Usually we arrange a session or two over the holiday period.

Looking at the weather and incessant cold nights and biting cold easterly winds things didn’t look particularly good. We eventually decided on a commercial fishery where we could buy a few bites from carp and perhaps a perch later in the day. We were going to fish soft pellet on the hook introducing just a couple of free offerings.

The method was going to be a waggler on a float rod. The bites from the carp we were told would be very shy.

I also put out a couple of rods with prawns on just in case there were any perch moving around.

The wind blew really hard for most of the morning making it very difficult to control the float and stop it from drifting. The first action we had was on the perch rods where we were ledgering prawns. We had a screaming take that didn’t result in a hooked carp. Soon though the rod was off again this time Tyler hooked up with a very lively carp that was taking line from the reel.

This carp was not taking things easy and charged around the lake. Soon though Tyler drew the carp over the net and in it slipped.

It was beautiful looking mirror carp. Tyler wanted to weigh it as it looked a pb for him. Sure enough it was at 5lbs 4oz. So after a quick photo the fish was returned to the very cold lake.

The wind was whipping up even more and it was becoming more uncomfortable for Tyler. So we decided to move to another small lake on the complex where he could get some shelter behind an umbrella. This time we decided to fish the prawns rods for perch.

Sure enough after a while we had some very quick pulls that didn’t develop. Not knowing what caused these but thinking it was carp we were surprised to hook and land a couple of small chub of about 1lb or so.

The sun was lowering and sure enough the perch came on the feed and quickly Tyler hooked a 1lb 9oz perch, followed by another of 1lb 11oz. So a couple of stunning fish for him.

As the sun progressively lowered in the sky Tyler was getting colder and rather than staying and perhaps spoiling his day we decided to call it a day.

So a good days fishing under very difficult conditions resulted in a couple of pb’s for Tyler and a big smile on his face.
