Andy and Stu barbel fish the river Wye

Now going back about 4 years ago I guided Andy on the river with his mate Paul and he caught a 10lb barbel. The river was in flood at that time in mid summer so almost perfect conditions. This time around the river was low and clear and not looking too good.

We were to fish for 2 days as we had done previously. So again I’m not going to write too many words as to be fair not a lot happened for those 2 days.

Andy was really struggling even being in some good swims. It was slow going for sure. I spent most of the time with Stu who had never caught a barbel before. We soon put that right and he couldn’t believe what a fight a small barbel gives.

Stu ended the first day with the biggest barbel of 9lbs 9oz barbel.

Andy just had a small one of 6lbs and it was difficult fishing for sure. Others were finding it difficult too.

The next day we fished another area and found it difficult however Stu was at it again landing one of the largest chub that I’ve guided on the Wye 6lbs 5oz. A beautiful looking fish.

So two days of fishing and rock hard conditions. I think Andy was disappointed about his sessions however over the moon with Stu catching those big chub and barbel.
