24th July H.Avon

So I ended the previous blog with saying so very very lucky. Well that has deserted me today. I could only fish for a few hrs this morning and fancied a go at a swim where in the past I had seen a few barbel. Well I turned up at 8am and found 6 barbel feeding on my baits (pellets ) together with about 8 chub. 2 of the barbel looked enormous perhaps over 14lbs. I let things settle down before casting out my normal short hooklink. There were also one or two bream.

Beautiful river Avon

I was watching the chub come and pick up the pellets and then occasionally one of the barbel would scuttle across to feed too. Well as things settled they were oblivious to me watching every move. One of the big barbel flashed and showed it’s full length and girth and I watched as it glided over to the baited area and then quick as a flash it was hooked and went to the far side of the river into the weed, but not for long as I pulled it away and downstream away from the danger. It then decided to pull hard again heading upstream into some top end weed where the line snapped or perhaps parted on the weed. It was brand new line too.
To show itself and then take the bait was adding insult to injury for me. I was rewarded later though with a snotty bream of about 4lb then by a chub of the same weight.
There were some expletives shouted as I normally don’t lose to many fish but that is the 2nd one this year. I’m not giving the reason for the lose but I shall not be repeating the exercise again for sure.
So I won’t spout on about being lucky again.
