Steve and Mick on the river Wye

Steve is a member of the Tench Fishers and asked me if it was possible to guide on the river Wye.

He was going to bring along his fishing pal Mick. Both had fished the Wye before with mixed results.

Of course I said yes and duly we meet to fish a good stretch where there are plenty of barbel. However I sound like a record player the river was low and clear, no change there then.

I suggested it would be difficult fishing and I set the target of 6 for the day. On a normal day you could say double that number and my pb regarding numbers is 25.

The day was difficult however we did catch the 6 that I predicted, however nothing large. They were very pleased with the knowledge on rigs swim selection they learnt. As they were staying for another two days they could practice what they had been shown.

They were great company and between the jokes, tea and landing barbel we had a great day.

They were unsure whether their tackle was sufficiently strong enough to cast the feeders so I let them borrow my tackle for a couple of days as I wouldn’t be using it for a while.

Think they were pleased as they went on to land some good fish over the next couple of days. chub to 5lbs and barbel over 9lbs.

Both catching pb’s.

Happy days.
