Perching with Tim and Jake

Both these guys have fished with me before and caught some good fish.

They had been trying for some big perch. Tim had caught a couple of large ones in a fantastic session I think they went 2lbs 14oz and 3lbs 2oz so he was he is no stranger to big perch.

They had talked about perching and so I took them to a good fishery close by. It was very good to me last year with fish to 3lbs. Jake had not caught one over 2lbs, so the task was on of beating his pb.

Guiding as you could imagine is very difficult and no guarantee is possible. However the lake I took them too I thought might just suit them. Lots of runs and normally 10 perch each time.

We arrived at 7.30am at first light and with overcast skies it looked perfect for a few before it got really light. Nothing at all!

We fished through and through and through the normal perfect conditions without a touch. Prawn with maggots but nothing.

I said 2pm it would start……wrong.

Then at 3.30pm one of the rods that Tim was looking after gave a drop back bite ( he was on a visit to the loo) and soon Jake was playing  a perch. On the light rods they do pull a little but within a short space of time Jake had it in the net. I thought just under 2lbs but on the mat before weighing  Tim said 2lbs 1oz and sure enough that it was.

So with much enthusiasm we continued to fish. As darkness approached we thought conditions were perfect. Darkness arrived and at 5pm one of the rods was off again and Tim struck and played and landed a nice perch of 2lbs exactly.

It was last knockings and our last chance.

So that was it very disappointing but at least a pb and one over 2lbs for each was not a disaster.
