Perch and more perch November 6th

After my first session angling for perch, I was disappointed on the condition of the perch in this particular fishery. Having said that I believe that the perch are late this year coming into condition and the fishery is still one to watch for the future and I’ll be fishing it later in the winter or early spring.

So after a couple of river sessions on the Kennet and BA and not catching a barbel it was in my minds eye to give another fishery a go which has produced some good sized fish in the past. I had never fished this lake before but thought it might be interesting to find out what was going on.

So I fished one area which had been kind to my mate (you should have been here yesterday) Andy. He lived up to his reputation nothing much came along for the first 3 hours other than a 8oz perch.

I then changed swims and looked at this one.

The bait was the normal king prawn fished on a very light ledger.

I was firing out plenty of maggots to get the smaller fish shoaling in. I was getting plenty of short lifts and eventually I hooked one of the culprits which was a small perch of about 6oz. this continued for most of the afternoon and other than 3 larger fish most were small. Again they didnt look in great condition and I think the hot summer and one of the warmest autumns has taken it’s toll.

The pick of the bunch was this perch of just 2lbs.

Just about 2lbs
