Ist November Bristol Avon and a painful experience

I went to a seafood disco last week and pulled a muscle!!!!!!!

I decided to spend the late afternoon and evening fishing for barbell as it had been very mild with temperatures at 17c.

The swim I fished had produced a couple of barbel for me over the last couple of weeks so my thoughts were very high. I put out the normal 2pints of hemp via the dropper and sat back in the late afternoon sun waiting for the fish to move in. After about 30 minutes I cast into the pool. I had one really viscous take that I unexpectedly missed.

Then some time later the rod tip nodded a few times and continued to do so,  then again it ripped around and the 12lb braid had broken. Not by a barbel as I use the bait runner mode so not much tension was on the line.

I think what happened was that a smaller fish was hooked and the pike grabbed this fish and bit through the line.

I recast again. The light levels were just starting to fade. I was just rebaiting when for some unknown reason the 3 oz lead weight slipped off my lap pulling the size 8 hook into the side of my index finger. Ouch!!!

I thought right better pull it out immediately before the pain started. I started trying to pull the hook out of my finger but it wouldn’t budge. So just to make sure I was doing the right thing I put on my reading glasses only to realise I was pulling the hook in the wrong direction, and in fact pulling it further into my finger. Plonker. plonker plonker!

So I started to pull in the right direction and I could feel the micro barb catching as I did so. Eventually after a few more seconds of pulling out it came. No blood at first then it started! Good job I had some sticking plaster in my rucksack.

Then the pain started, but not too bad.

Fishing on for a couple of hours into darkness didn’t help. Another blank in great conditions.

My finger has been sore today but all my jabs are up todate.

The Mrs is looking out for lock jaw, not sure if that’s me or her???

This time last year I was just starting my roach fishing adventure on Willow pool. I’ve renewed my ticket again this year.
