Andrea and Giovanni (Gi Gi) barbel fishing on the river Wye

Fishing the river Wye can lead you to become complacent with the fish and particularly the barbel. However others far and wide return to fish it. Andrea and I had been friends for it must be 4 years now. He lives in Italy and travels the world with his job. Whenever he is in the UK he stays with Mrs P and me.

Also we always find time for some fishing time. We have often fished the Wye and he has caught some great barbel. This year it was different he had bought his Dad, Giovanni ( Gi Gi). They were to visit the tank museum in Bovington and it was Gi Gi’s first time on a plane so very exciting indeed for him.

They arrived early in the morning and soon we were heading off to the wonderful river. I think Andrea had been telling Gi Gi what to expect however you cannot guarantee fish as any guide will tell you.

We had though a wonderful day catching some stunning barbel.

Andrea with a good barbel

The fishing was difficult with hot weather and even Andrea catching the sun in England!!!

Both caught some great barbel.

Great Father and son shot

Gi Gi was enjoying his time with us even though my Italian was poor. We had great fun.

Both are very large folk and the fish look very small in their huge hands. Gi Gi even managed a great chub of 5lbs.

Andrea was the lucky one with the larger fish.

After catching some good barbel and chub it was time to head off home to my place for dinner and a couple of beers and some relaxation.

It was wonderful to meet Andrea and Gi Gi. They are more than welcome to stay again.
