27th October and Chew Valley

This was one of my days on the lake that I’ve lived close with since I was a child. This doesn’t mean you know Jack sh^t about it. I’ve never cast a fly. Plenty of dead baits and lures but for little reward.

But living 30 minutes away doesn’t mean anything when booking and knowing what goes on. I’m not sure if things will be improved next year a different approach to booking!

Anyhow the fishing has been patchy and so has the location of the fish. Some boats have blanked to anglers who know most and others have little knowledge have flourished.

My boat partner for the day was Andy and he knows a thing or two about catching good pike from chew. He came second in a local competition last Thurs on the lake and lost by a few oz’s. He had a 25 lber on the third  cast with a lure.

He also had a 20 earlier when the fishing the opening few days.

We fished pretty hard for the day and little came our way. I had a small jack of about 6lbs and Andy had a couple of trout to lures.

Great time though until the engine broke down and we had to call for international rescue. The rescue flare went up ( Dan and Vince didn’t see them  from the bank)! Out came the rescue boat and what we didn’t want was a tow in!

That was it for excitement for the day!

We are both there again on Sunday next week and lets hope that the we both get gurt biguns!!!!
