8th and 9th chub over 6lbs for the season

Well there we go the river in late August the river looked mature which means that the weed had probably reached its peak for the year. I really fancied a swim where I’ve seen a couple of big chub plas a few rather large barbel.  Andy (you should have been here yesterday) Cowley was down fishing too. He was after a few barbel downstream and had been fishing for a while. I turned up and he saw me walk across the field. I soon sorted out my gear and tackle. I threw a few pellets in and saw some chub arrive and start feeding straight away. So I cast out and straight away the reel screamed and I was into lively fighting chub that had tried to gain sanctuary of the willow branches on the far side but luck was on my side and it was soon in the net.

Andy gave me a buzz as he saw me moving around. I missed the call as I was taking care of the chub but phoned him back. He was phoning me as a joke as he thought I was upstream looking at some chub. I said to him I had a wonderful chub and if it went over 6lbs 8oz would he come and take a photo. I weighed the chub and it was 6lbs 6oz and was perfect. Andy kindly came up and took a video and photo for me. I couldn’t be better pleased and thanked Andy and the gods for the capture. Number 8 of 6lbs plus chub.

Well that’s a 5 minute catch. Often I’m lucky like that. I think all the watching and work on the process is paying off.

Thanking him for the photos he headed off back barbel fishing. Me I continued for the chub.  To catch one 6lb plus chub I was even more pleased to land a 6lbs 5oz chub not long after. I’m unsure how lucky I was. Sometimes it works for you and other times it doesn’t. You will read later how the river Severn kicked me in the preverbal.
