First 2 weeks of July 2022

Well due to illness plus the really hot weather I didn't have too many angling adventures. Those that I did complete were pretty successful and I think there was only one blank. There were plenty of chub and a couple of double figure barbel caught in what is turning out to be a very difficult opening few weeks as temperatures rose →

Start of the river season 2022

As said Andy was late joining me for the glorious 16th June but would be down the following day. We had a great social at the Wood Green Wagon and Groom pub with Matt Tan and Steve Spillar as we had done the previous year. They said they had never witnessed so much weed up at their area and in places →

April and May Tench fishing

Tench fishing got off to a reasonable start in April. Plenty of fish and a beauty of 9lbs 6oz. The weather patterns are defiantly changing and the spring are coming earlier. Our Tench Fishers National was cancelled due to carp spawning. And most of May the lake was closed due to this. Plus I had 2 weeks in Cape Verde →

March and the end of the river coarse season 2021 to 22

Well here we are right at the very end of the coarse river season. It's been an eventful one in more ways then many others. Covid rules and regulations were still around throughout the season making life difficult. I managed to organise the Tench Fishers national fish-in on The Carp Societies Horseshoe lake happen with some social distancing etc. So →

January and February 2022 adventures

There was little to report for December as covid was rife again near Xmas plus I had a cold which slowed things down. Plus the river conditions on most of the rivers I fish were not inspiring me. They were in flood with plenty of rain in the systems. I hadn't properly got my perch head on either. I few →

Octobers fishing adventures and big Zander

I have done little fishing over the month of October mainly as the last 6 weeks has seen me taking Mrs. P on holiday. Firstly a week in Cornwall kicking the sand around on the beaches and some wonderful time walking the coastal paths. Then after a family wedding mid October a few days later we jetted off to Gran →

Pollution issues

It's refreshing though to fish the crystal clear waters of the Avon or Stour I wonder how much longer this might be the case. I'm no expert however with the water companies allowed to release untreated sewage into rivers at permissive levels and frequency cannot be helping particularly with low flow levels during summer levels. Few at Government level →

August fishing with more large chub

The weather continued to be hot throughout August with some very hot conditions. The barbel wouldn't come out to feed very often. You could locate the same fish in the same swim. Although it was unfair to target the same fish. I had found a great shoal of chub which enabled me to obtain some lovely video of them feeding →

July’s fishing adventures

July was an exciting month for me there were plenty of insects around and so my wildlife pond provided some wonderful video work. https://youtu.be/GHgbsTTIoqU The fishing was truly magnificent with some big chub and barbel caught. The summer was extremely hot at times 32c plus. The river Wye has been so disappointing this year with low flow and looking stale. Little is →

First few days on the Hampshire Avon with the new season 2021

I sit here writing this blog it's July 11th and England are playing Italy in the final of the Euro 2020 and I can't believe I've not written much about the start of the season. Andy (you should have been here yesterday) Cowley has joined me for the first few days of the season. We normally visit the Dorset Stour →

Final session Tench fishing this year with 9lb tench and carp to 33lbs

Much as the previous post my recollection of exact details other then weights is lost in the past. I have had to rely on the video taken at the time. The only thing I can say is that it pays not to be complacent about swim knowledge and assumptions. As I fished an area that I had known for 12 →

Session number two and 3 for tench

Again the weather was still cold and I arrived on a Sunday evening to see what had been out. The fishery had been quiet for the weekend with little being caught. A few carp anglers had been catching a few tench on boilies during the night time. I was going to be using worms again. Everything was quiet during the →

Spring is here but not warm weather

The spring should bring warmer weather however not this. I normally start my tench fishing the very first week of April however this year the spring weather meant frost for most of the month. They said it was the most number of frost in April ever recorded certainly the coolest. I think our area was something like 15 nights of →

End of March and lockdown is relaxed a little

Well it's been a long winter and I've not fished since the first week of December. The local venues within 5 miles of me have been busy with walker dog walkers and anglers. So I have reluctantly stayed at home as the government insisted. Having said that I've seen plenty of anglers travelling long distances to go fishing. I despair →

I’m still alive

Well things have been very difficult on the fishing front. We have had a second lockdown but fishing was allowed even night fishing. We were supposed to be not travelling too far. However how far can we travel? There is no stipulation. WE WERE IN A TIER SYSTEM WITH EACH LOCAL GOVERNMENT AREA ASIGNED A LEVEL well that didn't →

Another Covid 19 lockdown in November and 9 chub

Well it's not been great news as a national lockdown has been served again. Us fishermen are allowed to still go fishing but shouldn't travel too far. So I started off by going to the Salisbury area for a spot of dace fishing. I was using bread flake under a float. It was a difficult day to be sure and →

A couple of short afternoon sessions and another 7lb chub. 15th 6lb plus chub of the season

Having stayed in Fordingbridge for a week it gave me an opportunity to fish a few short afternoon sessions on the Hampshire Avon. The weather had been extremely rainy over the last week of October. Hardly a day passed without some heavy rain showers and on some occasions it would rain for a whole morning. The river had risen and →

An evening barbel fishing and 8 chub from the same swim

I decided that it was time for an impromptu barbel session on the H.Avon as we had had a significant amount of rain and the level was rising. I arrived at about 3pm and settled in a swim which I thought would give me the best opportunity. I could squeeze a couple of rods in the swim. I was just →
